My IRATA Level 3 reassessment gear
TURN ON THE CAPTIONS!!
I know the audio is bad. I explain it in the beginning of the video. I got questions on what I used in my reassessment so I decided to upload the video anyway. It is way below my normal standard for quality and it is what it is I can not change it. I have spend hours working on the captions to give you readable subtitles. With the captions on 90% should be clear. The next video will be back to the quality you know.
Hey everyone, welcome back to The Rope Access Channel. In today's video, we're closing out our reassessment series by talking about the gear I've used throughout. From the harness that's been with me every step of the way to the extra bits of rescue gear th...

The Full Skylotec Spark Review - Is this the best descender?

This is the long term review of the SKYLOTEC SPARK. After 8 months of solid use it is time I bring you this long term review of the SKYLOTEC Spark. The Spark has very quickly become one of my favorite descenders out there. It is...

Breaking into a tight line NO EXTRA GEAR - Is this hardest Level 3 rope rescue?
Просмотров 18 тыс.5 месяцев назад
Breaking into a tight line and performing a pitch head haul used to be one of the staple exercises for an IRATA level 3 assessment. Together with the Short link rescue these were the hardest exercises to do. It requires a lot of experience and insight in how to do this and adapt on the fly. Rope management skills are essential to keep track of what is going on at all times. When the TACS was in...
Is The Figure Of Nine Knot Actually Easier To Untie?
Просмотров 2,6 тыс.5 месяцев назад
A Figure of Eight knot is easier to untie than a Figure of Nine knot. I have been proving this since the early 2000's and as of late online more often. And still, for some reason people still claim the opposite. Even the poll I recently posted had 32% of the people saying the F9 would be easier to untie. The Figure of eight knot is one of the best allround climbing knots for many reasons and it...

    Hello there Alex, I'm a French rope access worker, I'm using the Spark since 2 years now and I'm agree with you on all the points. The Spark is a verry strong and durable descender. I've tortured it with paintings, masonry, fluids in industrial plants, and even in salty environment (with a proper wash after the job he still work great and no rust in it). He's still doing the job. The only bad point for me is the fact that when you do a small ascend on your rope with a fist ascender like a Jumar or else, the hold of the Spark may blocked in the ascender, but this can be avoid pretty easy with a good management of the handle. Anyway, I recommend it. He do the job, and he do it quiet well. 🙂

    I am struggling passing knot while ascending, I cannot seem to keep the rope close enough to chest long enough to lock my chest ascender. What could I do, or what am I not doing correctly? Is there anyway I can manipulate the footloop so when I step up I am closer to the rope?

    WOW So informative. I need to move some renovation materials up a hill. Your video has helped me design my pulley system. I'm 58 and never understood a pulley system and you made it so clear in 20 minutes! THANK YOU!!

  • @talltomrich1

    What kind of pulley system? It’s a theoretical 2:1 with a change of direction. The pulley is at the load so it’s an even system and there is only one moving pulley. But with the friction of the I’D it’s even less than that.

  • @jessgone

    Hi, i would make this video much shorter. If you use separate ropes than you victim, you can directly ascend above and start the weight transfer, using just one pulley, you can get him of his ascender, with the help of your weight,while he is attached in two points! And start descending.All under 3 minutes!

    • @cdurkinz
      @cdurkinz Месяц назад

      @@TheRopeAccessChannel They sure as heck aren't comparable in price and you're probably way more knowledgeable than I about the other uses. GriGri is often used as a descender in the same manner by climbers but it can also slip way worse than you show in the video if you unweight it for a split second so I doubt it's even allowed in industrial settings. I want a megawatt now though! The one handed expert operation looks super handy. Thanks for the video.

    • @TheRopeAccessChannel
      @TheRopeAccessChannel Месяц назад

      THese days you can use whatever you want (with the modern day assessor). However, if it seems that you NEED a piece of exotic gear to be able to do something that is simple with a footloop or accessory cord, they may ask you to show a simpler version. Like using a Petzl Jag or Harken Wingman for a Croll rescue. Hell, I even used and Actsafe winch on my latest assessment haha So if you go into a rescue and think a fourth asap would be good, just take it.

      Hi Jen, I have a few ways of doing it ;-). This was the way Lucasz taught it in the course so I just stuck with that ;-) That is a very good subject I have gotten quite a few questions about. It is high up on the list. At the moment however I am swamped with work and I shifted my spare time priorities away from the channel. I’ll see if I can squeeze it in somewhere because it is actually quite an easy video to edit (if I dont actually do the team rescue haha. In short, I go to the whiteboard and mark every rigging point as a station. Then proceed to write out exactly which gear is needed per station (A, B, C). When that is complete I explain to the team and assign them to a station. With their shopping list the can go and rig what I wrote down . When they are done you can check on the whiteboard how many locked carabiners there should be at each station, so have them count out loud the number of biners.. Unless you can already see it of course. I also keep it very simple. No english reeves and things like that. Usually a diagonal “tension” line and some cross hauling
